Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)

Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a broad term describing excessive and prolonged pain and inflammation that follows an injury to, or surgery on, an extremity. It is a neurological condition that has both acute and chronic forms. The exact cause of CRPS isn’t well understood but may involve abnormal inflammation or nerve dysfunction and is characterized by pain that is greater than expected. Treatment usually consists of medications, heat or cold therapy, physical therapy, nerve blocks, psychotherapy, and more. As trial attorneys, you typically see chronic CRPS with clients in pain long after they “should” be. This may be the primary focus of your case or it may be an added symptom you are dealing with along with many others. Because it’s not well understood, it’s imperative that you, or your experts, are able to explain to a jury how and why CRPS happens in a way that they can understand.

At Focus Graphics, the majority of our work is custom, specific to one case. Occasionally, however, we hear the same thing over and over from many different attorneys and realize that we can create something that can help many of you for a lower cost than usual since the basic animation stays the same. CRPS is a perfect example. We heard from many attorneys that they weren’t pleased with what their experts were using or with what they had gotten in the past. We asked them many questions, wanting to understand why they didn’t like them and what, exactly, they wanted to see. With that information, we created a “stock” CRPS animation that can be used as is or can be customized to your client for a fraction of the cost of a whole new custom animation. Check it out below.
